What 29 Countries, 8 Cities & 3 Big Moves Taught Me About Finding the Right Space
I didn’t realise how much my environment shaped me, until I left the city.
A couple of years ago, I moved out of Sydney. Not because I had a grand plan. I was just following The Pull, just following my intuition. Something deeper in me knew it was time for a change, even if I couldn’t explain it yet.
Within weeks of moving, something shifted.
I felt more grounded. More present. My intuition got louder. My work felt clearer.
It wasn’t magic. It was energy.
The city had lit me up, but it had also burned me out. And in that slower, softer environment, I realised something:
Some places sharpen you. Others soothe you. Some expand. Some contract.
And when you learn to tune in, you can feel the difference.
Environment Shapes More Than We Think
Over the past 17 years, I’ve travelled through 29 countries. Lived on 3 continents. Called at least 8 different cities home.
And one of the biggest lessons I’ve learned through all that movement?
Environment matters.
Not just in the obvious ways like weather, cost of living, or convenience.
But in how a place feels.
In how it affects your energy. Your creativity. Your ability to show up and grow.
Some cities feel like an electric charge: fast-paced, buzzing, activating.
Others feel like an exhale: grounding, expansive, nourishing.
Elizabeth Gilbert writes about this in Eat, Pray, Love—how each place carries its own archetypal energy.
Some ground you. Some ignite you. Some homogenise you, dulling your edges and muting your voice.
And it’s not just about cities. It’s the micro-environments too:
Your room. Your home. Your street. The view from your window.
And this isn’t just woo. It’s nervous system science.
Your surroundings directly affect how you think, feel, focus, and function.
Home & Harmony
One of the questions I ask myself now is:
“Does this place feel like home to my nervous system?”
Because you can love a city, but your body might not.
You can admire the vibe, but still feel off inside it.
When you start paying attention, you might notice the energy shifts street by street, suburb by suburb. Some places feel energising. Others feel depleting.
This is something writers like Hilary Perloff and Vedic astrologers (like in astrocartography) have explored in depth: how different places resonate with different parts of your being.
Practical Magic: Tools for Tuning In
If you’re curious to explore this for yourself, here are a few ways to start listening to what your environment is telling you:
- Drive through different suburbs with curiosity. Notice how your body reacts in each.
- Spend time in new locations and track your energy. Inspired? Depleted? Neutral?
- Play with your space. Move furniture. Clear clutter. Add a candle or plant.
- Notice which places make you want to create. Connect. Rest. Move.
You might also look into your astrocartography chart (yes, it’s a thing!) or explore Feng Shui. There are ancient systems that can help you understand the energy of spaces.
But most of all: trust what you feel.
Your body knows.
Final Reflection: Where Are You Blooming?
If you feel stuck, uninspired, or like something is “off,” maybe it’s not you.
Maybe it’s your environment.
So ask yourself:
- What spaces make me feel most alive, present, and powerful?
- And how can I spend more time there?
Because the truth is: we’re not just shaped by our habits or goals. We’re shaped by our environments.
And when you find the right one?
Everything changes.

- Quels espaces me font sentir vraiment vivante, présente, et puissante?
