The Gap Between Your Inner World and Outer Results

About 12 years ago, I moved to Australia. I could barely speak English. At the time, I didn’t realise how much this experience would shape the way I understand leadership, communication, and growth. Because when you can’t communicate properly, something becomes very clear: A lot gets lost in translation.

When Translation Breaks Down

In hospitality, this showed up daily. A customer would explain what they wanted. I would interpret it the best I could. The message could be clear, but if it got lost in translation, the outcome changed.

My first couple of months in Australia – Dec 2014

The same thing happens in leadership

You know what to do. You have the strategy. The experience. The capability. And yet something doesn’t fully translate. Execution feels heavier or slower than it should. More inconsistency. Clarity comes and goes. This is a translation problem. Your inner world and your outer actions are not speaking the same language.

Most People Work on the Wrong Layer

When results don’t match expectations, the instinct is to adjust the external. More structure. More discipline. More optimisation. More effort is not where we need to focus.

Everything Begins Internally

Every decision you make, every action you take, every way you show up is shaped first by your internal state. Your body determines your capacity. Your mind determines your perception. Your presence determines how others experience you. When these are aligned, your results become powerful.

What Misalignment Looks Like

Just like a conversation between two people who don’t share the same language, misalignment creates distortion. Internally, that looks like: * a dysregulated system creating urgency * a scattered mind driving inconsistent decisions * a disconnected presence weakening authority You may still perform. But it comes at a cost.

This Is the Work

At some point, it’s not about learning more. It’s about learning a different language. The language of your body. The language of your nervous system. The language of awareness. So that what happens internally can be translated clearly into how you lead, decide, and grow.

The Connection

My work sits at the intersection of these two worlds. The translation between the internal and the external. Because growth is not just about doing more. It is about becoming the person who can hold more.

Where This Leads

When internal state and external performance align: * decisions become cleaner * energy stabilises * growth becomes sustainable Leadership stops feeling like pressure. And starts feeling like capacity. Just as I had to learn to speak and understand English to be understood and create the outcomes I wanted, the same applies here. You have to learn the language of your own system. Because the problem was never effort. It was translation.

Why Strategy Alone Doesn’t Create Results

The Somatic Side of Growth I see it often in my work. A client knows exactly what to do. The strategy is clear. The next step is obvious. And yet, when it’s time to act, something resists. Execution is inconsistent. Visibility fluctuates. Momentum comes in waves. This...

Why Awareness Shapes Authority In business, the word agile appears everywhere. Agile leadership. Agile organisations. Agile strategy. We use the word constantly to describe the ability to adapt quickly. To move with change. To respond to complexity. But there is...

Work-life balance is a myth

So is hustle cultureThe False Binary Most high-performing leaders already know this. You do not want a rigid nine-to-five structure. You do not want to switch off at 5pm simply because someone once decided that was “healthy”. You might love working at night. You might...
