Work-life balance is a myth
So is hustle culture
The False Binary
You do not want a rigid nine-to-five structure.
You do not want to switch off at 5pm simply because someone once decided that was “healthy”.
You might love working at night.
You might thrive at 5am.
You might enjoy deep work when the world is quiet.
And that is not the problem.
Freedom Does Not Equal Alignment
Freedom of schedule does not equal alignment.
You can reject the 9-5 model and still feel like your system is always switched on.
You can love working at night and still be borrowing energy from tomorrow.
You can define your own version of balance and still be operating from nervous system vigilance.
The Hidden Driver
They move from rigid structure into flexible autonomy.
But they never examine the intention driving it.
Autonomy without awareness can still be reactive.
Are you working at night because it feels expansive?
Or because it is the only time no one needs you?
Are you taking 5am meetings because you feel energised?
Or because you are afraid of falling behind?
High performers often confuse preference with sustainability.
Without conscious intention, even flexible schedules can become another form of pressure.
Preference Is Not Sustainability
But your biology still requires down-regulation.
You may enjoy high-pressure environments.
But your nervous system still requires recovery.
The human body was not designed for constant cognitive output.
It operates through rhythms.
Energy cycles.
Periods of activation and restoration.
And for many women, this complexity is even greater.
Hormonal fluctuations, monthly cycles, and shifting energy states mean the body is constantly recalibrating.
Yet corporate culture continues to reward linear consistency.
How Women Adapt
They override signals.
Delay rest.
Normalise exhaustion.
And then call it resilience.
The Wrong Question
Rigid structure is not the answer.
Hustle culture is not the answer.
The real question is this:
Is your nervous system regulated?
Can you power down without anxiety?
Can you take a day off without mentally rehearsing emails?
Can you sit in stillness without reaching for your phone?
What Balance Actually Means
Nervous system balance.
Physiological balance.
Not calendar balance.
Because true alignment is not about when you work.
It is about how your body experiences the way you work.
And how you allow it to rest and recharge.
The Debt Always Arrives
And it always does.
The Future of Sustainable Leadership
It is biological intelligence.
When your nervous system is regulated, you can lead with clarity.
You can work intensely and recover fully.
Clarity sharpens.
Energy stabilises.
Recovery becomes possible.
That is the real standard.
Not 9-5.
Not hustle.
Regulation.

Why Strategy Alone Doesn’t Create Results
The Somatic Side of Growth I see it often in my work. A client knows exactly what to do. The strategy is clear. The next step is obvious. And yet, when it’s time to act, something resists. Execution is inconsistent. Visibility fluctuates. Momentum comes in waves. This...

The One Leadership Skill No One Teaches
Why Listening to Yourself Changes Everything Earlier this week, I was in conversation with two brilliant women. At one point, one of them said something that stopped me for a moment: “Our inability to listen to ourselves has become a pandemic.” The comment lingered....
